The LowZee Microphone Preamplifier Project
Welcome to the Lowzee project. Back in 2022, after years of reading Steve Dove and Bill Whitlock, I decided to tackle the problem of designing and building a new version of a 'solid-state transformer'. You can read my notes from June of that year yourself...
An ambitious goal indeed. While I'm not certain that I've actually cracked the magic circuit as described above, I did get a real working prototype built from the design. In fact, I built two very nicely matched channels of the circuit! On this page I'll show some photos of the finished product and talk a bit about them.
At the end, I will repost the .pdf report which was originally published to www.gearspace.com . It contains circuit details and descriptions for the LowZee as well as a fun project using a big homemade heatsink and some expensive LT voltage regulators to 'quiet' a laptop power supply. I hope you enjoy your read.
